ABOUT US

Why Denizli Travertine

Travertine forms where mineral-rich groundwater reaches the surface and deposits calcium carbonate layer upon layer. Gases escaping during that process leave the small cavities that give travertine its character. The same geology that built the terraces of Pamukkale runs underground across the Denizli basin, which is why this region is one of the richest travertine sources in the world.

Denizli stone is known for a balanced tonal range, regular bedding and the ability to yield large blocks — which means less waste and a more consistent batch. We work in Kale, Merkezefendi, where the quarries are.

Why buying at source matters: travertine is a natural stone, so tonal variation between production batches is normal. Working directly at the quarry lets us reserve enough material from one single batch for your whole project — the difference is most visible on large floors and façades.

Grades explained. Light — narrow, even tonal range. Light Mix — tones from the same palette deliberately blended for a livelier floor. Premium — selected, most homogeneous batches. Antique — a deliberately wide range of beige, grey and cinnamon. Grade describes tone and texture consistency, not strength: every grade comes from the same quarry and is equally sound.

SURFACE

Finishes and Where They Belong

The same block becomes a different material depending on how its surface is worked.

The finish does not change the strength of the stone — it changes texture, grip and maintenance.
Finish Appearance Grip when wet Best for
HonedMatte, smooth, calmGoodInterior floors, bathroom walls, cladding
PolishedGlossy, deepened tonePoor — slipperyDry interiors and walls only
TumbledAged look, softened edgesVery goodPool surrounds, terraces, gardens
BrushedLightly textured, matteGoodHigh-traffic and commercial interiors
Split faceFractured, strong shadowFaçades and garden walls
SandblastedEven, matte, roughVery goodRamps, stairs, safety-critical areas

One rule for pool surrounds: never use polished travertine. Wet and glossy is a genuine safety risk. Choose tumbled or sandblasted, and keep it unfilled — lighter tones also stay cooler in direct sun.

APPLICATIONS

Thickness by Use

Thickness is set by load and installation method, not by looks.

Final thickness depends on the substrate, the installation method and the expected load.
ApplicationUsual thicknessSuggested finish
Interior walls1.2 cmHoned or tumbled
Interior floors1.2 cm and aboveHoned, filled
Bathrooms & wet rooms1.2 cmTumbled floor, honed wall
Terraces & pool surrounds2 cm and aboveTumbled, unfilled
Driveways & garden paths3 cm and aboveTumbled or split face
Stair treads3 cm (risers 2 cm)Honed, anti-slip grooves optional

Ordering quantity: add a cutting allowance to the area you are paving — usually 5% for straight-laid rectangular areas and 10% for Roman pattern or tumbled work. Ordering short means a second batch, and a second batch rarely matches the first exactly.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes of travertine do you supply?

Our regular formats are 20 × 20 cm and 20 × 40 cm tiles at 1.2 cm thickness, plus Roman pattern (French pattern) sets combining four sizes in one repeating module. Slabs and any other dimension are cut to order — send your cutting list and we will produce to it.

What is the difference between filled and unfilled travertine?

In filled travertine the natural cavities are filled and the surface ground level, giving a smooth, easy-to-clean finish for interiors and bathrooms. In unfilled travertine the cavities stay open, which increases grip and keeps the natural texture — the usual choice for pool surrounds and outdoor paving.

Which finish should I choose for a pool surround?

Tumbled or sandblasted, always unfilled. Both give high slip resistance when wet, and tumbled edges are comfortable underfoot. Polished travertine should never be used around water.

How should travertine be cleaned?

Travertine is calcium carbonate based, so it reacts with acid. Lemon, vinegar, limescale removers and similar products permanently etch the surface. Use pH-neutral cleaners made for natural stone and warm water. Blot spills rather than wiping them, and re-apply an impregnating sealer every few years.

Where are you based and do you ship internationally?

We are based in Kale, Merkezefendi, Denizli — the heart of Türkiye's travertine region — and deliver throughout Türkiye. For shipments outside Türkiye, contact us with your destination and quantity so we can arrange logistics and quote accordingly.

Can I get samples before ordering?

Yes. Tell us the product code and we will send samples. Please assess them in the light of the actual space — travertine looks noticeably different under daylight and artificial light.
